TAMPA MUSEUM OF ART NAMES MICHAEL TOMOR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Tampa Museum of Art announced today that Michael Tomor will be its new executive director. Tomor, who has been the director of the El Paso Museum of Art since 2006, is expected to begin working at the Tampa Museum of Art on April 15. The previous executive director of the Tampa Museum of Art was Todd Smith, who resigned to become the director and CEO of the Orange County Museum of Art.
At the El Paso Museum of Art, Tomor started the “Modern Masters Series,” which brings work from the Guggenheim’s permanent collection to El Paso. Among the works shown as part of the series are paintings by Vasily Kandinsky and Franz Marc, which will go on view on February 13.
In a statement, Tomor shared his excitement about his new position. “It is a great honor to be selected as the next director of the Tampa Museum of Art,” he said. “The board and staff are committed to the museum and its future role in the cultural landscape of the entire Tampa Bay region, and I’m thrilled to be part of that community leadership making all of this happen.”
